Esther Maria & The Song Horse out of Aarhus, Denmark, draw on the old school flavours of folk and country, but spice it up with some of their own ideas. Reviewers have mentioned as diverse artists as Jeff Buckley, Gram Parsons and CocoRosie in attempts to describe the band's songwriting and her voice.

REVIEWS
"Esther Maria has the voice for the job and brings the song to the place where it hurts. When she moves all the way into the higher registers it simply causes goosebumps. (...) No doubt that Esther Maria as a singer has 'star quality' and that we haven't such a convincing country-vocal on Danish ground since Camilla Munck (of Wynona). (...) All in all Esther Maria is a welcome addition to the Danish folk scene - as is "My Black Heart" an absolutely promising debut."

"My Black Heart hangs mainly on the talents of the lady in question, with her voice doing justice to some strong songwriting which reminds me a little of Gram Parsons in the more country-tinged moments and Jeff Buckley's 'Sketches..' stuff in the darker, more mysterious tracks. (...) As far as 'singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar' releases go in this day and age it's pretty good stuff."
